What’s special about the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS?

After months of speculation and countless spy sH๏τs, Porsche has officially confirmed that the 718 Cayman GT4 RS model is in the works.

The German automaker has been conducting extensive testing on camouflaged mule cars, which had already hinted at the development of a GT4 RS variant. With the final stages of testing underway, Porsche has made it clear that the high-performance sports car will soon become a reality.

Porsche has confirmed that the upcoming 718 Cayman GT4 RS will be powered by a 4.0L naturally-aspirated flat-6 engine, but the horsepower figures have not yet been released. However, many automotive media sources speculate that it could produce up to 500 hp, surpᴀssing the GT4, as indicated by the significant difference in their lap times on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In addition to the expected power boost, the GT4 RS will also feature noticeable visual enhancements, including a more aggressive front splitter, front fender vents, and a swan-neck rear wing, reminiscent of the 992 GT3. More details about the highly anticipated GT4 RS will be revealed at its unveiling in November.

As the ultimate performance model in the 718 range, the GT4 RS will likely follow suit with other existing ‘RS’ models and come exclusively with the PDK transmission. Those who would prefer to opt for a manual transmission will probably have to look at the regular GT4, or wait for Porsche to release some sort of 911R-equivalency for the GT4 RS. On similar grounds, the possibility of a Boxster Spyder RS is also highly unlikely.

Details on pricing for the GT4 RS are still scarce, but it’s expected to be priced in the range of the Porsche 911 and close to the latest GT3. While it’s unlikely to be priced the same as the latter, it may come close. The base price for the GT4 is $100,200 USD and the GT3 is $161,100 USD. Our estimate is that the GT4 RS will be priced around $140,000 USD. More details on pricing will be released in the future.
