Electric Supercar: The YangWang U9 Defies Gravity and Pushes Boundaries

The YangWang U9 is not just a high-performance electric supercar; it’s a marvel of engineering that can go from zero to sixty in an astonishing two seconds. What sets it apart is its ability to perform incredible feats like jumping, dancing, and even driving on three wheels.

We’ve seen our fair share of silly-fast supercars but never one that jumps and dances.

Yes, you read that correctly; BYD’s new supercar can literally bunny hop into the air while standing still.

While we’re not entirely sure why the excellently named YangWang U9 does it, we at least know how it manages it.

In a nutshell, the YangWang U9 boasts the new DiSus-X ‘body control system’.

According to BYD, it’s the first self-developed intelligent body control system launched by a Chinese automobile company.

The BYD DiSus-X uses computer-operated air and hydraulic systems that can control each corner of the vehicle individually.

This means the U9 readies itself by shrinking down before bouncing up and launching all four of its wheels off the ground at the same time.

It reminds us of a cat jumping in the air after being startled by a cucumber.

If you’ve ever seen one of those videos online, you’ll know what we’re talking about.

We can’t imagine it being a particularly useful feature, but looks cool nonetheless, while also demonstrating the capability of the suspension.

Apparently, BYD beat Tesla to market with a car that can get airborne.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised that the next-generation Roadster will be offered with a “rocket system” that will allow it to fly a “little” in “short hops”.

It’s yet to be shown in action, though.

Believe it or not, but bunny hopping isn’t the only trick the BYD YangWang U9 has up its sleeve.

The DiSus-X system also allows the electric supercar to drive with a wheel missing.

Because that’s something you do all the time.

BYD says the battery-powered U9 can go from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in just two seconds.

It will be priced at $145,000 when it launches in China later this year.
