“The V-22 Osprey, originally developed as the JVX (Joint-service Vertical take-off/landing Experimental) aircraft, emerged in response to the U.S. military’s need for a new type of versatile aircraft capable of not only taking off and landing vertically but also handling combat tasks and serving in a variety of roles. The impetus for this innovation can be traced back to the Iranian hostage crisis in 1980 when the failed rescue mission highlighted the necessity for a new aircraft that could not only adapt to diverse terrains but also handle combat scenarios effectively. The U.S. Department of Defense initiated the JVX program in 1981, with a focus on addressing the needs of the U.S. Army’s logistics.”
