The Malaysian Defence Ministry has issued a call for bids to procure 780 units of the Instalaza C90 Light Anti-Tank Weapon (LAW) from Spain, marking one of the most significant anti-tank weapon acquisitions in recent history. Published on January 30, the tender will remain open until February 20, allowing interested companies a 21-day window to submit their proposals. According to Malaysian Defence, the Infantry Battalion aims to equip its personnel with a Light Anti-tank Weapon Disposable System. The system’s primary purposes include the destruction of light armored vehicles, gun emplacements, pillboxes, concrete bunkers, and similar hard targets. Emphasizing mobility, the weapon must be easily transportable by infantry personnel across sea, air, and land deployments, supporting both offensive and defensive operations.
Interestingly, previous displays of disposable launch tubes for the C90 have been primarily ᴀssociated with units like the Army special forces GGK and the 19th Royal Malay Regiment (RMR), while the M72 LAW, procured from Nammo, has been observed with the Pathfinder company of the 10th Para Brigade and the GGK. Despite ᴀssumptions that the proliferation of RPGs within infantry units might render the C90 obsolete, the substantial procurement suggests otherwise.
