Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR: The Ultimate Fusion of Technology and Racing in the Avatar Universe

Inspired by the fantasy movie Avatar, the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is highly appreciated for its unusual design, many impressive technologies from the future.

Mercedes-Benz Creature-like Car DebutsAt CES 2020, the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR debuted as a car of the future with a design based on the movie Avatar. The product looks like an organism.AVTR stands for “Advanced Vehicle Transformation”, is a collaboration product between Mercedes-Benz and the production team of Avatar, the 2009 science fiction film directed by James Cameron.

While the previous Vision concept from Mercedes-Benz was a bit futuristic but still uses many technologies related to current vehicles, the Vision AVTR is a completely different story.

Vision AVTR features and technologies may not be available in commercial vehicles in the near future.

Exception

The exterior design of Vision AVTR is encapsulated in 3 words: simple, futuristic and organic.

Mercedes describes the Vision AVTR as a “living creature” from the future. The front end resembles the electric EQ, but the company says aside from this detail and the three-pointed star in the center of the front, the Vision AVTR is unlike any other Mercedes-Benz model.

The headlights are replaced by LED strips extending to the sides. Can before does not have any slot of the wind. The hood has a strong design.

The organic design also appears on the sides of the car with a classic design. Although this design has been used by many automakers since the 1930s, the Vision AVTR is truly the pinnacle.

Instead of the car door TV system, Vision AVTR uses automatic retractable doors, making it easier to get in and out.

Mercedes-Benz says the Vision AVTR wheel is inspired by the design of the seeds of the soul tree in Avatar, that the design follows the intelligence of nature.

All wheels can be steered separately. SPECIAL type allows the vehicle to move sideways or diagonally.

The Vision AVTR is a work of art but not sure the design details please all, typically the rear part with the presence of 33 multi-function discs.

This detail simulates the breathing of creatures living on the planet Pandora. In addition, this system also helps to increase the aerodynamics of the vehicle. From a distance, these disks look like long’s flash sets.

Failure

Therefore, with modern commercial vehicles, Vision AVTR has a simple but futuristic cockpit. Organic layout with an endlessly extending center area for a futuristic car feel.

It is a complex architectural style with long strokes running under the seats, on the floor and columns. Vision AVTR has no steering wheel. The car is fully autonomous and self-driving. In fact, future cars have a steering wheel.

Hidden behind simple menus and clean interiors is futuristic technology. Mercedes says the steering wheel is replaced by a multi-function control mechanism in the center, allowing “man and machine to blend together”.

The vehicle detects people by heart rate and breath, quite similar to how Saruman uses the results of magic spheres to track enemies in “Lord of the Rings”.

When you take your hand away from the center area, a control menu will expand in the palm of your hand. This menu allows you to select different functions, explore the vehicle’s features through the public display that replaces the communication system control panel.

Depending on the driver’s mood and vitality, the car will provide a suitable driving mode.

In suspect mode, the car will drive itself. However, people in the car can still change parameters such as speed to make the car go faster. Of course, if desired, the driver can regain control to drive himself.

The organic design of the driver’s seat was inspired by the leafy hammocks in Avatar’s Home Tree. Between the two front seats is a seat reserved for small children.

The seat can react to the car’s surroundings through feeling. Each seat has 8 triggers to help occupants feel the outside environment.

The 360-degree surround sound system helps occupants know exactly where the sound is coming from. Unlimited when going through the stream, you can immediately tell whether the murmuring water is coming from the left or the right without looking out the car window.

When the whole family gets in the car, the Vision AVTR will activate the appropriate mode. The front seat connects to the rear seat through the Child Connect function, which continuously monitors the children in the rear seat.

Mercedes-Benz also developed a new app called Magic Pool. The use of augmented reality with young children, the application is integrated into the front seat, the content comparison process is suitable for children.

But technology and design are not the only highlights that make Vision AVTR stand out. This template concept also uses green and sustainable design materials.

Without restriction, the seats are upholstered in Dinamica leather, made from eco-friendly and recyclable microfiber. The floor of the car uses Karuun material made from rattan in Indonesia.

The back of the seats and the ceiling use color-changing plastic with a sea theme. Depending on the light, the plastic can change from dark green to light green. The remaining surfaces are made from recycled microfibers from old clothes, flags and PET plastic.

engine block

The Vision AVTR display runs entirely on electricity. However, the engine block carries steam in the future, not only because each wheel is fitted with an engine, but because Mercedes does not publish specific figures.

Basically, the Vision AVTR has 4 large-capacity electric motors mounted on each wheel for a total capacity of 350 kW (476 hp), 74 hp more than the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

It sounds disappointing with a futuristic concept like the Vision AVTR, but Mercedes-Benz may not reveal all of the car’s specifications. There is still too much time for the German automaker to develop a much more powerful finished version.

Meanwhile, despite using only 2 electric motors, Tesla’s car gave a performance of over 700 horsepower. With a 4-motor setup, expectations with the Vision AVTR are much greater.

Vision AVTR uses an all-wheel drive system, combining traction control technology to distribute traction to each wheel, maximizing stability at all speed ranges.

Vision AVTR’s battery technology is revolutionary in the form of modern metal-free organic batteries. This feature makes the battery fully recyclable, environmentally friendly.

New batteries are not dependent on fossil resources, something automakers have come to expect for decades.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, Vision AVTR’s battery can be charged very quickly, taking less than 15 minutes to be full.

110 kWh battery block for a travel distance of more than 700 km, the second highest in the segment. Compared to Tesla’s most powerful electric vehicle, the Vision AVTR travels 96 km further.

But will the new engine block and battery be in production any time soon? Regarding the motor, there is certainly no problem, while the new battery technology takes time to perfect.

Conclude

Vision AVTR object to every detail. Realistic organic design and great contribution to future car.

Simple failure but bold technology. The motor is still based on current technology, but the pin opens a new era, promising recyclability, super-fast collection and great travel distance.

With just a few of these coming to fruition, it is certain that the Vision AVRT will be one of Mercedes’ most prominent car concepts in recent years.
